Auralbook for iPhone/iPad | Must-have download for students

I’ve long been looking for a well-designed, interactive app for aural training on iPhone and iPad and I think I’ve just found it!!

Auralbook is the first that I’ve trailed that can actually analyse your singing and give you feedback on whether your answers are correct… and it actually works quite well!

I’ve just tested the AMEB Grades 6 and 7 versions (they are free to download) and the app was spot-on at recognising the pitch of my singing and even shows it to you on manuscript over the top of what you were meant to sing. I made sure I made plenty of mistakes to see what would happen and it was able to cope and give constructive feedback every time.

Grades 1, 2, 3 and 6, 7, 8 for AMEB and ABRSM are all available now online for free, with the ability to purchase more exercises at each grade level as required. It is also current with regard to the syllabus (at least for the AMEB), asking students all the right questions for their level.

You can even set it up to email you summaries of your students’ progress and it has a cloud feature that involves stats I haven’t yet had a chance to explore.

Here’s a link to the AMEB Grade 6 version on App Store. I highly recommend all teachers to check this app out. It really is a great product and far superior to anything else I’ve found to date. It works equally well on iPhone and iPad and is even available in its native language of Cantonese.

The only downside is that the voice can be slightly annoying, but for what you get, this is a small concern.

Let me know your thoughts when you’ve checked it out :)
