SIPCA begins Thursday!

The Sydney International Piano Competition, held every four years, is Australia’s most prestigious (and, I think, only international) piano competition.

Luckily, for those of us not living in Sydney, ABC Classic FM is broadcasting the entire thing and it starts this week.

Stage 1 involves:

All competitors playing a 20 minute recital.

One virtuoso study by Chopin, Liszt, Scriabin or Rachmaninov.

The remainder of the program will be own choice of works by two other composers. One or more works of each chosen composer may be played.

Broadcast dates and times
Thursday 5 July 9.30am 2pm 7.15pm
Friday 6 July 9.30am 2pm
